"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me."

GET INVOLVED

We work with indigenous Batwa "pygmies" just outside of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, which until 1991 was their forest homeland. Now they live in settlements at the edge of the park. For the past 3 years, we have worked mainly within Kalehe Village, creating a more sustainable community, with clean water, improved livelihoods through our artisan coop, and education for children.

RSF is seeking a full-time volunteer in Uganda to help with our school, or community development projects.

We also have many volunteer opportunities and needs, and list them at Volunteer Match. We have projects that can be done from anywhere in the world. We're specifically looking for assistance with accounting, grant writing, social media management, blog and newsletter writing and design, and nonprofit development!

STICKS TO BRICKS!

Our annual #GivingTuesday campaign is here!

First, the Batwa lived in stick "huts." Then we built mud/clay homes that used a kind of "sticks" to create semi-permanency. NOW, we want to build permanent brick homes for the stable families of Kalehe village.

Each home is $1500 and any extra funds above what we need for homes will go to agricultural education, staff funding, supplies, and food relief. We want to build three brick homes and maybe four if funds allow.

You can donate through our website's donation page, or mail a check to RSF, PO Box 876, Frisco, TX 75034.

Each home will get an "eco-stove" that reduces their need for firewood and they will also get goats, which will help with their protein needs and also provide manure that can fertilize the crops we recently planted — coffee as well as vegetables, beans, and more. They already have solar panels we bought them, and these will be transferred over to the new homes. These are added to the many agriculture projects we are engaging in to improve their ability to make money and survive: vegetable gardens, animal husbandry, and coffee!
