When RSF board member Merika Andrade spent time with the Batwa kids a few years ago, she noticed they didn't have future dreams. When she’d ask what they wanted to be when they grew up, or what they wanted to do, most did not have any ideas. 

 

We've been working hard to change that. This year our fundraising goal is to get Every Child Sponsored so we can ensure they get the dreams they deserve. 

 

With inflation costs, we need two sponsors per child, but several of our kids have NO sponsor. We also have 4 in secondary school next school year, which costs triple that of primary school. And we’ve made the tough call that if a child does not have a sponsor, we can’t continue to put them in school unless we have dedicated funds to cover that, which means at least one sponsor.

A minority Indigenous tribe, the Batwa comprise less than 1% of Uganda’s population. Most live in extreme poverty and experience daily hunger. Most drop out of school in primary grades. Few go on to secondary schools. Only a handful have ever attended university, and only 4 have received a 4-year college degree. They face enormous odds. We love these children as our own, have been with them and their families for a decade, and are committed to seeing them succeed. Won't you join us?
